Survey costs
Is the Energy Saving Trust cavity-insulation figure a repair cost for your survey?
No. The Trust’s cavity-wall page, updated 8 May 2026, says a typical installation in Great Britain can cost around £2,200, and around £1,000 in Northern Ireland. That is a typical cost to insulate a suitable cavity, not the cost of a defect in your survey and not a quote for this house.

What is the fuller explanation?
Use it only if you are actually considering cavity insulation, and only after the wall has been assessed as suitable. The Trust says defects, damp and failed gutters should be dealt with first. A survey that has found those defects is a reason to pause, not a reason to paste £2,200 into the price negotiation as “the damp”.
Every other repair in the survey, from a valley to a boiler to a drain, still needs its own quote. We do not convert condition ratings into pounds. Ask the relevant trade. If a figure on this site is not tied to a named source and a date, it does not exist. This paragraph is the one that is tied to the Trust’s page.
What should you ask your surveyor?
- Which defects would you want repaired before anyone injected insulation?
- Are you saying the cavity is suitable? A visual survey usually cannot measure the cavity width.
- Which costs in your report are not insulation and therefore not this figure?
What are the typical next steps?
- Keep the Trust’s figure out of the survey negotiation unless insulation is the actual project.
- Get trade quotes for the defects the survey named.
- If you do want insulation later, ask an installer to assess this wall and to give their own price.
Costs vary with the building and with who you instruct. Where this page does not cite a published figure, ask the surveyor, a relevant specialist, or your solicitor for a written quote. Do not treat a forum average as the price.

Can you add the Trust’s figure to a roofer’s quote?
Only if you are buying both jobs. They are not one repair. Adding them to sound more precise is how budgets lie.
Does the figure apply to solid walls?
No. It is about cavity wall insulation. Solid-wall insulation is a different specification and a different conversation. The Trust’s cavity page is not that price.
